Well it's over and for the most part was a good trip. Now for the bad part the Civic Center is a nice place but why do they think that everyone wants to be deaf? I like music as well as the next person but when it's so loud it gives you a headache that's a little much! My biggest complaint is with the VHSL, you would think being that this was a state championship that they would have hired professional out of state officials. I watched in horror as way too many bad calls were thrown out on the mats, I know everyone makes mistakes but some of the junk was pitiful, which there was enough bad calls to go around it seemed that there was a bias toward the lesser known schools, in other words if the kids from these schools didn't come out and pin the other kid the calls made sure that the kids from the better known schools won! Another problem is that the refs have the final say, and if the coaches questioned a call some of the refs took it out on the kids latter in the match. This stuff is childish at best but the VHSL has been plagued with bad calls all year, I guess everyone remembers the deal at the single A final football game? The VHSL needs to hire professional guys for state meets and leave Johnny rent a ref at the house!!!!!!!

Needless to say, who you support. Have you ever actually seen wrestling outside the state or their refs. Sorry to tell you but outside of probably delaware, pennsylvania and new Jersey, Virginia refs are some of the top ones. Lets remember, there are thousands of calls made during the state tournament and the idea that you can only remember a hand full is a good thing. Personally I don't want WV, NC, or MD refs doing anything in va because at least our guys get close to the rule book.
As for the calls in the finals, setting at my vantage point the "reversal" was easily out of bounds. However the takedwon at the end was a takedown, but in high school a majority of refs will not call it "2" until the offensive wrestlers gets his head out and hands above the waiste. In college refs call it right pretty close to 100% of the time. High school refs call it wrong over 50% of the time.
And it was very classless for rural retreat fans to boo adam sandoe and then get on here and say it is partially because he was thingyy. I don't know any rural retreat champs who have not been happy or a little thingyy after winning state titles. Lots of respect was lost because of that.
